Dreyer gets Bok nod

Lions prop Ruan Dreyer has been called up to join the Springboks, as injury cover ahead of their two remaining end-of-year tests against Italy and Wales.

Stalwart tighthead Jannie du Plessis was forced from the field after around an hour of Saturday’s test against England, having sustained what looked like a hamstring injury. While he’s not yet been ruled out for the remainder of the tour, it certainly looks as though he’ll miss this weekend’s game in Padua.

Coenie Oosthuizen is likely to step into the void at tighthead this weekend, with another Lions man, Julian Redelinghuys likely to make a test debut off the bench. It’s unlikely that Dreyer will get any game time on tour, but if he does, it should come in the game against Wales, when a number of front line Boks will be unavailabe due to European or Japenses club commitments.
