The Stormers pre season picks up

The DHL Stormers will look to build on their 35-3 victory over the SWD Eagles in George last week when they face a sterner test in a visiting Cheetahs squad.

According to reports the Stormers were slow out of the blocks and only really found their groove in the second half, while the opposite is true for the men from Bloem who were beaten by a late Bulls surge after leading for most of their fixture.

Allister Coetzee was pleased with the hit out and enjoyed the fact that he was able to give 27 players some valuable game time, he was particularly pleased by his teams efforts at scrum time, an aspect of their game that the coaching team placed a huge emphasis on. The Eagles traditionally have a big pack and are able to bruise many egos when they hit their straps.

In other news Eben Etzebeth looks to be unleashed on Friday evening after sitting out of Saturdays game in George, Etzebeth missed most of his teams 2014 season after sustaining an ankle injury during a warmup game against Boland last year, the coaching staff will be holding thumbs that he doesn’t suffer a repeat of that incident especially since both Jean Kleyn and Ruan Botha are still a few weeks shy of full recovery from their own injuries.

Among the backs it appears that the Cape franchise have stayed true to form and have lured back a player who they deemed surplus at age group level, Matt Turner has been called on to fill the void left by Seabelo Senatla who will be on 7′s duty until May.  Turner is no slouch with ball in hand and has represented England on the 7′s circuit,  Turner only weighs in at 82KG’s and the union are reported to still be trying to secure the services of Samoan Sailosi Tagicakibau who was loaned to them last year, Tagicakibau has a full 25KGs on Turner as well as a 18cm height advantage.

The Stormers face the Cheetahs 7pm at Newlands on Friday evening
