Stormers swap halfback pairing

Louis Schreuder and Kurt Coleman have been selected as the starting halfback pair for the Stormers who take on the Chiefs

Regular starters Groom and Catrakilis get to catch a breather this week while fit again Kobus van Wyk comes straight back into the right wing position after recovering fully from a calf injury sustained during the pre-season.

With Coleman starting you certainly get the idea that the Cape side is looking to get the ball through the hands a bit more but Schreuders selection tempers that. What we are likely to see is more kicking from the base of the scrum and the forwards having a rumble playing off the scrummie than an all out naïve run around.

Allister Coetzee is well aware of the attacking threat that the Chiefs possess and stated that their variety on attack was something that would certainly test his teams defence

Jean Kleyn gets to start in the number 4 jersey alongside Manuel Carizza at the expense of Eben Etzebeth who is being rested as part of the SARU agreement although it is more likely due to the knock to the shoulder during last week’s fixture against the Sharks as he has only a handful of playing minutes under his belt.

The bench once again has a strong look to it, Allister Coetzee will be able to call on the likes of Frans Malherbe, Schalk Burger(who will earn his 99th Super Rugby cap should he take the field) and Ruan Botha to provide some much needed punch while Allister Vermaak will provide some great continuity on the loosehead side of the scrum. Nic Groom and Demitri Catrakilis will provide the coach with different tactical options should he require a change in game plan.

Stormers – 15 Cheslin Kolbe, 14 Kobus van Wyk, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Dillyn Leyds, 10 Kurt Coleman, 9 Louis Schreuder, 8 Duane Vermeulen (c), 7 Siya Kolisi, 6 Nizaam Carr, 5 Manuel Carizza, 4 Jean Kleyn, 3 Vincent Koch, 2 Scarra Ntubenii, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Subs: 16 Neil Rautenbach, 17 Alistair Vermaak, 18 Frans Malherbe, 19 Ruan Botha, 20 Schalk Burger, 21 Nic Groom, 22 Demetri Catrakilis, 23 Huw Jones.
