April Fools! – Smit to start pro cycling team

Sharksworld can exclusively confirm that Sharks CEO, John Smit, will leave his position with the team in order to start a brand new professional cycling team. The new team will be named “The Old Boys Club” and will start competing locally before turning their attention to trying to conquer the international cycling circuit.

The fledgling team will have another name familiar to Sharks fans on their books in none other than Butch James. In fact, Smit has promised to only work with people he had played with or was coached by in his stellar rugby playing career.

Here’s what the man himself had to say about his career move: “I was going for my daily ride on my bike and there happened to be a mosquito buzzing around close to my ear. When I realised that the mosquito was making a similar high-pitched whine to the Sharks fans that we encounter at Kings Park and all around blogosphere, I decided that enough was enough.

“When I got home I gave Butchie a call and we both decided to follow our real passion, cycling.”

Smit explained that the fans were right to be upset about the state of affairs at the Sharks. “We won the Currie Cup a few months after I took over as CEO, uh, and then we won the South African Super Rugby conference quite comfortably last year. But apart from that, there has not been much success to speak of”. The new man will certainly have a big job getting the Sharks out of their current crisis.

There is still no news of who might take over from Smit or what colour scheme Smit’s new cycling team will be wearing.
