As good as it’s going to get

I’m afraid it’s time for a healthy dose of pragmatism, Sharks fans: we need to accept the team for what it is and get behind the boys that are on tour.

The reality is that the touring squad is what it is; we all know that there are certain players in the mix about whom we continue to have doubts, but we need to be realistic. The squad has been selected, is already in New Zealand and isn’t going to change. We therefore really shouldn’t act with shock or outrage when said players are picked for a match 23; after all, with only 27 players in total (of whom two are not available for selection this week) it’s frankly unavoidable!

We’ve all had a chance to have our say over the last fortnight and have dished out the criticism where warranted. Some of the points raised seem to have hit home – after all, Stefan Ungerer is on the tour, Bismarck is no longer the captain – while others have not. We’re not going to be able to change those thing (not now, anyway) and I think perhaps it’s time to put the negativity aside and throw our weight behind the team that we have.

The Sharks team are committed to being positive and doing the best job they can – controlling the things within their control and not dwelling on the negative things that they can’t change. Can we, as fans, do the same? At least for the next month?

Let’s give it a bash.
