No Sharks offer for Hendricks

The Sharks have confirmed that, contrary to media reports, they have not made any approach or offer to Bok winger Cornal Hendricks.

Hendricks, who is currently contracted to the Cheetahs, has apparently sought permission from his current franchise to enter into negotiations with other teams ahead of the 1 July window – a clear indication that he intends to move on. The Sharks may have been mentioned as a potential destination, but that information would appear to be wide of the mark. The official word from Kings Park regarding Hendricks is that there neither has been, nor is, any contact and certainly isn’t any sort of offer on the table.

The Sharks have confirmed interest in another winger, though, with talks ongoing between the union and former Junior Springbok winger Wandile Mjekevu. Mjekevu, who spent a bit of time in Durban as a junior, left to join Perpignan in France in 2013 and has matured as a player in the French league. Now 24, he’s scored 50 points for his new team in just 26 games and is apparently considering a move to the Sharks, among a number of other offers.

The official word, though, is that while talks are ongoing with Mjekevu, no agreement has yet been reached and it remains possible that the player may join another team, with Western Province also understood to be in the running for his signature.
