Michael Horak has responded to his Sharks under 21 side’s bad loss against Free State last week by making no fewer than 8 changes to the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Leopards in Durban.

Both of last week’s starting props, Barend Potgieter and Ruan Kramer, find themselves on the bench, with Baby Bak Mzamo Majola and Mthunzo Moloi elevated to the small-numbered jerseys. Jean-Luc du Preez’s call up to the senior side means a start at blindside flank for Retief Marais in the third change to the pack.

It’s at the back where the axe has fallen most heavily. Rowan Gouws starts at scrumhalf ahead of Lotter Pretorius, with Inny-Christian Radebe and captain Marius Louw the only backs to retain their starting spots. Legend Marwana replaces Sandile Kubeka at outside center, while an all-new back three of Riaan O’Neill, Alrin Eksteen and Sipho Mkize will take the field.

The game kicks off at 13h45 on Saturday, on KP2.

Sharks under 21:
15 Riaan O’Neill, 14 Alrin Eksteen, 13 Nkululeko Marwana, 12 Marius Louw (capt), 11 Sipho Mkhize, 10 Inny-Christian Radebe, 9 Rowan Gouws, 8 Ayron Schramm, 7 Retief Marais, 6 Graham Geldenhuys, 5 Hyron Andrews, 4 Johan du Toit, 3 Mthunzi Moloi, 2 Andrew du Plessis, 1 Mzamo Majola .
Replacements: 16 Kerron van Vuuren, 17 Barend Potgieter, 18 Ruan Kramer, 19 Wian Vosloo, 20 Lotter Pretorius, 21 Nkululeko Mcuma, 22 Marcel Coetzee

The under 19s will be in action earlier in the day, also facing the Leopards with a 12 noon kick-off.

Paul Anthony has kept his squad pretty much intact after last week’s draw, with just two changes to the match 23. There’s a fair bit of rotation between the starting team and the bench, though. Johnathan Vorster comes in for his first start at tighthead, ahead of Kabelo Motloung. Vorster’s twin brother Wentzel will be at loosehead, a proud day for the family from Vryheid. A loose trio reshuffle sees Ruan Smook return at number 8, with captain Mike Meyer moving back to openside and Bernardus Haring shifting blind. Cameron MacNab drops to the bench.

Chris Lines comes in for a first start of the season; he’ll wear the number 13 jersey, with Tristan Blewett shifting to left wing. Bretn Christoffels moves to the bench. Jaywinn Juries, whose second-half heroics helped secure the draw against Free State, returns to the starting scrumhalf spot, with Gervin Rossouw returning to the squad as his replacement. The other enw face belongs to another Northern Natalian, Ladysmith’s Kyle Rhode. Rhode replaces Stephan Nel in the number 22 jersey.

Sharks under 19:
15 Morne Joubert, 14 S’busiso Nkosi, 13 Chris Lines, 12 Wayno Visagie, 11 Tristan Blewett, 10 Tristan Tedder, 9 Jaywinn Juries, 8 Ruan Smook, 7 Bernardus Haring, 6 Mike Meyer (capt), 5 Rowan Coetzer, 4 Rikus Zwart, 3 Johnathan Vorster, 2 Bradley Roberts, 1 Wentzel Vorster.
Subs: 16 Erich Kankowski, 17 Marq-Anthony Lombard, 18 Kabelo Motloung, 19 Christie van der Merwe, 20 Cameron MacNab, 21 Gervin Rossouw, 22 Kyle Rhode, 23 Brent Christoffels
