DHL Western Province coach John Dobson has named his first lineup for the Currie Cup opener in Kimberley on Friday.

Besides having a bit of crisis at hooker, Dobson has put together a strong looking squad to front up to the team from the Northern Cape who are not only a consistently tough assignment at home but a team that is already battle hardened having already gone through the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup qualifiers as a unit.

Jean Kleyn and Ruan Botha resume their exciting second row partnership and both players will look to remain injury free to build on to their performances of last year while Jaco Taute and Juan de Jongh partner up in midfield lending the side a blend of size , experience and guile . Kobus van Wyk is a notable omission from the right wing but Dillyn Leyds will pick up where he left off after enjoying a successful Super Rugby season.

Bongani Mbonambi (who is on Currie Cup debut for Western Province) has been named to start at hooker but will face a late fitness test, should he fail to pass , SWD Eagles hooker Mariues Fourie will start at rake with Charlie van Jaarsveld of Sir Lowrians RFC taking the number 16 jersey.

Rhynhardt Elstadt makes his return from a leg break sustained in February and has been earmarked by the new coach as a man to lead the pack and the defence, off season signing Jano Vermaak will be among 5 players on the bench who will be making their debut.

DWL Western Province to play Griquas:

15 Cheslin Kolbe, 14 Dillyn Leyds, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Jaco Taute, 11 Seabelo Senatla, 10 Demetri Catrakilis, 9 Nic Groom, 8 Nizaam Carr, 7 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 6 Rynhardt Elstadt, 5 Ruan Botha, 4 Jean Kleyn, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 Bongi Mbonambi, 1 Oli Kebble.

Subs: 16 Marius Fourie, 17 Alistair Vermaak, 18 Chris van Zyl, 19 Chris Cloete, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Kurt Coleman, 22 Johnny Kotzé, *23 Charlie van Jaarsveld (standby)
