Injury concerns for Sharks

The last thing the Sharks needed after a disappointing opening-round loss to the Pumas was to pick up injuries as well, but that seems to be exactly what’s happened and Gary Gold will need to scratch his head a little in order to pick his team for the EP Kings’ visit on Saturday.

Lourens Adriaanse appears to be the most serious of the casualties – the Bok prop picking up a nasty shoulder injury half an hour into the contest at Mbombela. He looks set for an extended rest and with designated backup Thomas du Toit also doubtful following and ankle sprain, the Sharks may need to bring in emergency tighthead cover from elsewhere.

Jean-Luc du Preez is also in doubt, after picking up an unspecified leg injury during the first half. While brother Daniel could (and probably should) replace him in the starting lineup this week, Jean Deysel may also come back into selection contention.

The Sharks name their team on Thursday morning.
