PDivvy canned, Chester gets the nod

In what can only be described as the calm before the storm, news has been slow and when a Varsity Cup coach appointment catches your eye, you know you have hit rock bottom. Anyway, news is news.

Chester Williams has been appointed as new head coach of the University of the Western Cape. He replaces the evergreen former Springbok coach Pieter de Villiers, who is once again unemployed. And by unemployed, I mean he has no coaching job, seeing as he is making money from being a guest speaker at unruly events and by being the big name on SABC’s Rugby World Cup coverage. Oh how I am looking forward to hearing that voice on TV.

Williams will take over the Varsity Shield team coached by De Villiers from 2012, hoping to take from his experience of coaching the Blitzbokke, the Cats in Super Rugby as well as doing some international work in such rugby nations as Uganda, Tunisia and Romania.

We wish both parties the best of luck.
