The Springbok team to face Japan in their opening fixture of the 2015 Rugby World Cup has been announced, with Jean de Villiers leading the team and Patrick Lambie starting at flyhalf.

The team sees quite a few players returning from injury, while the backline has remained mostly unchanged from the last team that played Argentina. The only change there being the inclusion of captain Jean de Villiers, with Damian de Allende missing out on the match 23 completely.

It is amongst the forwards that most of the change happened, Jannie du Plessis back from injury and joining his Sharks team mates to pack down in the front row. Lood de Jager is back in the 4 jersey that he knows so well, joining Victor Matfield in the second row. According to the team release, Eben Etzebeth could have played in the match, but the decision to give him more time to fully recover a smart one in my mind.

Similarly, Duane Vermeulen could also have started the test, but again, he was given more time to get himself ready. That means Francois Louw, Willem Alberts and Schalk Burger will do duty as the loose trio.

Amongst the substitutes we see the long awaited return to the match 23 for Fourie du Preez, who is sure to see a bit of game time in the second half. Coenie Oosthuizen is also a walking wounded to return to the team.

The Springbok team to face Japan in Brighton is:

Springboks: 15. Zane Kirchner, 14. Lwazi Mvovo, 13. Jesse Kriel, 12. Jean de Villiers (Capt), 11. Bryan Habana, 10. Patrick Lambie, 9. Ruan Pienaar, 8. Schalk Burger, 7. Willem Alberts, 6. Francois Louw, 5. Victor Matfield, 4. Lood de Jager, 3. Jannie du Plessis, 2. Bismarck du Plessis, 1. Tendai Mtawarira.

Substitutes: 16. Adriaan Strauss, 17. Trevor Nyakane, 18. Coenie Oosthuizen, 19. Pieter-Steph du Toit, 20. Siya Kolisi, 21. Fourie du Preez, 22. Handre Pollard, 23. JP Pietersen.
