Horak picks his best

15 Oct 15 12:39 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 57 Comments

A strong Sharks under 21 side has been named for Saturday’s semi-final against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, with Currie Cup regular Andre Esterhuizen picked at fullback in the only real surprise. [...]

2015: a team failure needs a team response

15 Oct 15 12:00 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 38 Comments

As fans who’ve endured the worst year, results wise, in at least a decade of Sharks rugby, it’s perhaps inevitable that the last few months of 2015 will be spent in deep contemplation, trying desperately to work out what went wrong and to seek out some signs of hope for the future. Even more inevitable, I guess, will be the temptation to look for obvious scapegoats – to identify one or more individuals on whom we can pin this season-long disappointment, whose departures we can attempt to engineer, whose names we can besmirch in the hope that their removal might suddenly result in a 2016 upswing. [...]

The “Old Firm” and a touch of Blarney?

15 Oct 15 11:08 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 7 Comments

It’s been a rather interesting World Cup tournament so far, with a fair few games that haven’t gone completely to plan during the pool phases. South Africa’s shock loss to Japan, of course, has to count as the biggest upset in the history of the tournament (if not rugby itself) and it would be hard for anything to top that, but the so-called “minnow nations” have certainly played their part in an entertaining spectacle so far. [...]

On behalf of the entire Sharksworld family, I’d like to congratulate Clayton and Crystal on the birth of their baby son Elliot late last night. [...]

Sharks and Springbok winger Tonderai Chavhanga announced his retirement from the game towards the end of last week. [...]

Boks change 1 for Wales

14 Oct 15 11:50 by Richard Ferguson (Richard Ferguson) | 68 Comments

JP Pietersen is the only change to the starting team that beat USA so comprehensively a week ago to face Wales in the Rugby World Cup Quarter Final match this Saturday. [...]

What’s next for the Sharks

13 Oct 15 17:09 by Pierre McLeod (pierre_mackie) | 81 Comments

Reminiscing over the last few seasons it’s hard to believe how the Sharks got “worked” after they took “the drop” off the back of a very successful 2013 Currie Cup campaign. The Sharks decided to part ways with John Plumtree, who took them to two Currie Cup titles in 2008 and 2010, and appointed former Rugby World Cup winning coach Jake White to take them into a new chapter in Sharks Rugby in 2014. [...]

One last hurrah

13 Oct 15 09:57 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 40 Comments

Let’s put aside our doom and gloom for a bit (and forget about the woes of the senior side) as we get firmly behind the Sharks under 21 team for this weekend’s semi-final against Free State. [...]

Masterstroke, or momentum killer?

12 Oct 15 15:02 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 104 Comments

The Sharks under 21 side, after a run of four unbeaten games that managed to drag them up out of the doldrums and into the semi-finals, suffered a 22-74 defeat at the hands of the Cheetahs this weekend. There’s more to this story, however and I urge that only the brave read further. [...]

What they had to say: Sharks vs Cheetahs, Round 10

12 Oct 15 09:49 by Stephen Smith (StevieS) | 17 Comments

What a horrible feeling. We didn’t win, but it certainly feels like we lost. It’s almost a relief that the season has finally come to an end. [...]

Sharks blow it again

10 Oct 15 15:48 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 309 Comments

In a frankly amazing capitulation, the Sharks have squandered a 14-point lead to draw 34-all with the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup, in the process missing out on a semi-final spot. [...]

Currie Cup 2015: Round 10

9 Oct 15 09:07 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 141 Comments

And just like that, the Currie Cup is virtually over for another season, with the last round of league games played this weekend. Only one fixture has any bearing on the make-up of the top 4, while two others will be instrumental in determining the location of one of the semi finals. [...]

Malherbe biting allegation a malicious non-event

8 Oct 15 12:39 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 20 Comments

World Rugby has issued a statement in response to a spurious allegation from right-wing English tabloid the Daily Mail, accusing Bok tighthead prop Frans Malherbe of biting an oppoennt during his side’s 64-0 annihilation of the US Eagles in Newham yesterday. [...]

8 Oct 15 10:47 by Rob Otto (robdylan) | 136 Comments

An ankle injury to Wandi Mjekevu has opened the door for Garth April to make his first Currie Cup start, as Gary Gold names his team to take on the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday. [...]
