A Saffa and a Kiwi preview the big clash
In possibly a sporting first, a Kiwi and a South African have combined their insights to preview the epic top of the table clash between rugby’s two greatest superpowers. This weekend sees the marauding Springboks, fresh of their historic victory over the Wallabies in Brisbane taking on the mighty All Blacks in the hallowed turf of Eden Park in Auckland. [...]
Boks home vs Boks away
Yesterday we had a break from reality and delved into selecting a dream team of coaches for the Springboks, however unlikely those selection may be. Today, we look at something that may seem unrealistic at first, but could well be one of the most entertaining matches thought out. [...]
Changes we shall see
Yesterday we looked at potential changes to the Springbok team to face the Wallabies this weekend, and it seems we are in for a few changes, whether we like it or not. [...]
Meyer needs a number two
So Morne Steyn has been re-established as Heyneke Meyer’s number one and who could argue his decision? Patrick Lambie had possibly his worse season (albeit behind a struggling Sharks pack) since 2010 when he made his debut for the Sharks in the Super 14. Later that year he was integral in the Sharks’ Currie-Cup-Champion campaign when he moved to fly-half for the Sharks for the first time. Lambie’s form isn’t the only arguing factor though, as Morne Steyn played some of the best rugby he has played in a long while. Even the cruellest of critics, like myself, couldn’t deny that Morne still may have something to offer in a Springbok jersey. Maybe a break from the game really did him some good (or fatherhood), but Morne certainly looks comfortable in his role with the Sprinboks again. [...]
TEN: Simple rules to live by in the South African rugby landscape
Last year we had an abundance of creative flyhalves looking to unseat Morne Steyn from his position in the Bok team and they actually did for a brief (delightful) period of time. Fast forward 12 months and the cupboard is bare!! [...]
Late try seals it for Bulls
The Bulls have beaten the Sharks by 20 points to 19 in Pretoria, after a 70th-minute try from Jano Vermaak erased a 6-point Sharks lead. [...]
Strong Bulls named for Sharks
Well, when it comes to their quest to secure top spot on the Super Rugby log, the Bulls clearly aren’t messing around. Frans Ludeke has named a powerful line-up indeed for Saturdays’ Loftus clash against the Sharks. [...]
Pollard Super Rugby debut on hold
The Bulls have suffered a minor flyhalf setback with news that Louis Fouche is out of action for the remainder of the season. While is not as bad for Super Rugby, the Currie Cup sees the Pretoria based outfit with no experienced flyhalf. [...]
Potgieter takes Bulls reigns
Japan-bound Dewald Potgieter looks set to see out his Bulls career wearing both the number 8 jersey – and captain’s armband – vacated by the injured Pierre Spies. [...]
Questions answered
The Sprinboks surprised all and sundry, myself included, by beating Samoa quite convincingly on Saturday evening. What I enjoyed the most about the game was the fact that the Boks looked better than they have looked under Heyneke Meyer. [...]
Changes on the cards for Boks
Rumours coming from within the Bok camp suggest that Pat Lambie will start the second test of the Incoming Series against Scotland. [...]
Five uncapped Boks for Italy
The Springbok team to play Italy this Saturday has been announced, with 5 players making their debut in the match. Willie le Roux and Jano Vermaak will wear the Green and Gold for the first time as starters. [...]
Brace yourselves: here come the BullBoks
If reports from the Bok training camp are to be believed, Heyneke Meyer looks set to include at least seven Bulls players in his Bok starting team to face the Italians this weekend – with five of the seven backline positions going to men in blue. [...]
My Bok team
Following the announcement of the Springbok squad on Saturday evening, we have all had a few days to digest this. From the 34 man squad, is it possible to select a match 23 that can really do damage during the Rugby Championship? [...]
